Hi Amanda! Your mother was my boss at Hospice of Louisville, so I met you briefly during her work-related parties at your home in Louisville. I moved to Chicago in 1996, and kept in touch with your mom via letters (before most of us were online) for a few years. I married an ELCA pastor in 2004, and he now works at churchwide in Chicago. We are planning our first New England vacation, to Boston, next week. In "Googling" your mom, I learned your folks returned to the Boston area, and that you are in Africa with an ELCA program. What a small world, and what wonderful things you are doing! I plan to write your mother before our trip. In the meantime, I'd like to send you ongoing good wishes in the work you are doing abroad and in all that you hope to experience and contribute, and wish you good health. (I now work in a hospital ICU and your malaria story freaked me out!) You obviously come from "good stock," and are making the most of your opportunities. Enjoy!

Sincerely,
Shari (Myers) Massey

Hi Amanda!

So happy to hear how your visit went with your folks. I'm sure it was as much a treasure for them to see you at work there as it was to for you to have them join you. A very special bunch of people, y'all :)

Until next time, know you & the program & staff are held in my heart & prayers,

    Blessings & love,
           Annise

Amanda,

I always enjoy reading your blog to see what you are up to "on the other side of the pond". It was great that not only could your parents come to visit but also were able to enhance their experience by teaching and interacting with the students and staff of the university. Your line about being half way around the world and still being known as "Ken and Marie's daughter". I grew up as "Bob Grant's grandson" to everyone from miles far and wide.
